2. THE ISSUE: HOW TO REACH A CRITICAL MASS OF L2 SPEAKERS ON CAMPUS?

There are numerous academic locations in the world whose administrators would love creating immersion sites for their students and for the local population. Indeed being proficient in English whether one lives in Thailand or in Kazakhstan, being proficient in French, Spanish or Portuguese in certain African states, learning German in Turkey or Turkish in Tajikistan, Chinese in America, Russian in Germany and some post-soviet countries may help business, support cross-cultural connections, and enrich academic life at large for further studies abroad.

However many university rectors willing to internationalize their workforce and research, and who want to offer unique linguistic and intercultural experiences to their students, are confronted to a serious challenge: how to organize onsite immersion? Most often they lack a critical mass of native speakers in the other language and do not know how to organize the local resources in a way that will allow for fruitful immersive experiences to happen. The present blurb is to address this issue and explore possible solutions, highlighted in the subsequent titles.
