The structure of each course meeting is thus:
- 30 minutes content preparation with re-reading and pre-viewing activities, and vocabulary lists with translations.
- 20-120 minutes watching the content-based video, time depending the level of proficiency of students and types of contents and work on contents.
- 30-60 minutes video study group discussion and debate on the video contents. If language immersion is emphasized, this part is organized in the language of immersion. Code switching is acceptable for increased understanding.
- Follow-up with extensive reading on course topic, either as homework or as furthering of the video study group.
Such courses can be associated to distance learning with online connection to other video study groups, or with the author of the videos for questions. Thus a variety of blended instruction format can be made available. In any case the format is blended, hybrid apprenticeship, NOT fully distant learning. The human relations within the video study team is of utmost importance, as well as the relation with a knowledgeable facilitator. Some courses focus on team projects and do not include any video part, unless requested by the group.
